This review is from: Decompression Map (Paperback)
As a
psychotherapist for over 20 years who has witnessed firsthand the effects of
PTSD on returning soldiers, I was totally intrigued with Decompression Map.
Authors Claudette Walker and Matrix Filia have written a book that is
informational, educational and poignant as well. Through a combination of
personal vignettes of the tales of war coupled with solutions that ameliorate
the pain induced by their tour of duty, the book is very helpful to most all of
us, so that we as people and as a community might find new ways to support our
troops.
The authors have developed a unique plan for vets that envelops our young men and women with support and encouragement that they so desperately need after the pressure of battle in a foreign country. Not only are vets often wounded physically but the emotional wounds may be just as serious in some cases. The symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder including flashbacks of horrendous scenes are extremely stressful.
I highly recommend Decompression Map not only for our wounded warriors, but for family, friends and the rest of us so that we might better understand the issues surrounding their re-entry into their communities and lives they led prior to fighting.

Our Day With The Veterans at the VA
After "Decompression Map" was read by an executive of the Veterans Administration on a plane to Washington, D.C., Matrix Filia and I were guests of the Veterans Administration Baypines Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. We visited, signed and gifted two cases of Decompression Map books to veterans, plus numerous of our other books to the staff in appreciation of their excellent work. It was pure fun for all involved.
Thank you to the veterans for your overwhelming reception of the authors and
Decompression Map. Many veterans were excited that we put a journal in
back for the reader to write their own notes. A big thank you to the
extraordinary doctors, nurses, staff, volunteers and support people at
the Veterans Administration .
May our Decompression Map assist all in attempting to understand what a solider has been though in war - provide a new ideas for soldiers, families and others who need to decompress from trauma. We hope to inspire those who are seeking some way to help those who have, are and will be returning from war or surviving trauma and bring a few smiles to all along the journey of the story.
We were pleased to hear that soon a new PTSD wing at Baypines Hospital will be ready! The soldiers also loved our homemade oatmeal cookies... Bottom line, what a wonderful way to spend a day.
Since our return, another case has been gifted, to be given out at Dover Air Force Base, where our story begins. Your purchases of any of our books has assisted us in funding this small gift program for soldiers. We will be looking to Feb 2013 to gift more books to soldiers. Thank you.
